Okafor a good fit with Sixers

Philadelphia 76er’s  Head Coach Brett Brown placed a call to  Jahil Okafor’s former college coach, Mike Krzyzewski to get a little more insight into the young center whom he selected with the third pick of the draft.

“I had a fantastic conversation with Coach K and when we hung up, I knew Jahlil had great potential and is a terrific, young prospect, but I hadn’t realized what type of person we had, as well,” Brown said. “The more I learn about Jahlil, the more you respect his upbringing value and love of the game. I was in the office at 6:30 the other morning, and he’s in the gym working with a trainer. You then go upstairs and get ready for a day’s work and you feel great. I’m really excited to coach him, and the program is going to realize very quickly how special he is,” Brown told Bob Cooney of the Daily News.

Do not expect the Sixers to make any splashy moves in free agency as the franchise is committed to Brown and his long-term plan to turn the team around.  When signing on with the franchise, Brown made it clear that he was going to take three seasons of tinkering with the roster before making a splash move in the year Kevin Durant becomes a free agent.

“I think we’ll be out there and we’ll have discussions, but we’ll be discerning, too. We’ll have to be reasonable about it and about the kinds of players we want to go after,” GM Sam Hinkie said. “We want players who would fit with our group over a long period of time. If we were to make some big investment in any free agent, it needs to be someone who might fit. And you might guess, like if we come to the conclusion that that’s a player that can really help us, other teams might too. Other teams might too, right?”
